Catherine Fleetwood’s (Greencore) extraordinary sandwich demonstrated innovation, precision and skill, earning her the title of Sandwich & Food to Go Designer of the Year for 2022.
Royal Greenland – MSC Cooked and Peeled XL Cold Water Prawn Category
Hello, Seaside
Sam Tebbatt’s (Melton Foods) sandwich was inspired by the Great British seaside and came with generous helping of nostalgia and chip shop scraps.
This year for the annual ‘Sammies’ awards, entrants competed over four categories which were judged on their creativity, design and technical ability.
H. Smith Steamed Cooked Whole Breast Fillet Category
The Oishii Sando
Susannah Montgomery (The Soho Sandwich Co) created this sandwich after the japanese word ‘Oishii’ meaning ‘delicious’ & ‘tasty’. The judges described this as incredibly moreish.
Mission Foods – Sage & Onion Tortilla Category
Making a Pig of Yourself
Gary McDowell (Deli Lites) created this delicious combination of pulled pork, vintage cheddar and bramley apple and chilli salsa. All of the judges agreed that Gary’s entry should take the prize.

Prawn To Be Wild
Emma Taylor’s (Greencore) ‘Prawn To Be Wild’ Bao Bun combines fresh oriental flavours with avocado, prawns and just the right amount of spice to take a walk on the wild side.
Danish Crown – Pre Cooked Bacon Category
Crispy Eggs & Bacon
Edd Melloy (Chandos Deli) created this innovative take on a traditional bacon and egg sandwich. It was the showstopping panko runny egg that sealed the winner’s accolade on this entry.
H. Smith – Shredded Chicken Category
Naan Chicken Tikka Taco
Frances Cope’s (Greencore) ‘Naan Chicken Tikka Taco’ was certainly an entry that looked good enough to eat. Colourful, vibrant and full of flavour served warm on a homemade naan bread.
La Boulangère – Brioche Baguette Category
Banging Finger Sandwich
Barny Luxmoore (Jabberwocky Catering) created this ‘Banging Finger Sandwich’ which combines buttermilk fried chicken fingers and halloumi with an own-recipe ‘Banging Sauce’.
Mission Foods – Chocolate Flavour Vegan Tortilla Category
The Poacher’s Pocket
The Judges were blown away with the combination of the chocolate wrap and venison, along with nettle fries and blackberry chutney on Catherine Farrell’s (Greencore) ‘The Poacher’s Pocket.
